Brown was shot while playing basketball at Metcalfe Park in the Bronzeville neighborhood, an unintended target caught in the crossfire between rival gang members. Richmond was one of five people charged in connection with the incident in 2011.
Two of the offenders, Aramis Beachem and Jamal Streeter, were convicted and sentenced to 50 years in prison. Clarence Whitelow pled guilty for unlawful use of weapon and was sentenced to probation. Michelle Lawrence was charged with theft and received probation.
