Recipe for Change

Bruno Abate, the owner/chef at Tocco in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood, started an organization called Recipe for Change nearly two years ago.

The organization teaches inmates at Cook County Jail cooking and life skills they can use when they get out.

When Recipe for Change first started, Bruno put almost $25,000 of his own money into the project. Since then, Bruno has gotten some help, including a $50,000 grant from the MacArthur Foundation and numerous donations from

others. The program gathers three times a week and teaches everything from knife skills to recipes in order to help the inmates rehabilitate and obtain a job upon release.
