CHICAGO (WLS) -- It was a perfect fall morning for a half marathon across Chicago's South Side.
Barricades were already up near Jackson Park early Sunday for the Chicago Half Marathon, which kicked off at 7 a.m. The 5k started at 7:45 a.m.
This year's race was the 25th anniversary celebration.
Thousands of people laced up their shoes Sunday as the half marathon takes them across Jackson Park, Hyde Park and South DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
"I like runner's high. I like challenging myself. I like having a training schedule," said Jordan, who is running the half marathon.
Her friend, Darcy, also participated.
"We've never ran around this area, so we're excited to kind of see it and be tourists for a day," she said. "Super excited! I don't know why I'm doing this, but I'm doing it, and I'm here with my best friend!"
People of all ages ran the half marathon, which went for 13 miles across the city's South Side.
"It's tiring, honestly, but I had a good time. You know, I PR today, too. So, it's really nice," said runner Lucas Kihmm.
The event always brings out so many people from dozens of countries around the world . That diversity was represented Sunday, and many runners from the South Side said they're proud that such a big race happens there.
"It's amazing, and to hear that there's 30-some countries here as well, it's just great that the world gets to see our side of Chicago as well," said runner Walker Gunning.
Another runner, William, also weighed in.
"Jackson Park is like a jewel for the city. It's good to see all the tourists out, people from all over the city come out to Jackson Park, have a great time. I think the city is represented really well today," William said.
Closures started at 6 a.m.
