While no one else was injured, the accident did cause delays on the Metra train line to Aurora.
Police are investigating what caused the accident.
Police the woman was using a walker and was trapped by two crossing gates before she stepped in front of the oncoming locomotive.
Berwyn Police Chief William Kushner says 57-year-old Linda Barkley never made eye contact with the train's engineer before she was killed Sunday. Kushner says witnesses have told investigators the Berwyn woman became stuck between the crossing gates as the Union Pacific freight train approached a crosswalk.
