Daley urges Chicagoans to complete census

April 1, 2010 (CHICAGO)

Chicago is ranked among the worst cities in the country when it comes to returning forms for the 2010 Census.

The mayor participated in a rally at Federal Plaza to encourage Chicagoans to take the time to fill out the form and mail it back in. He said federal funding for everything from roads to health care to education is at stake.

"All the money you send to the federal government is determined by formula with the number of people that live within your congressional districts. it's as simple as that. When you don't fill that out, you shortchange your children and grandchildren in your community," said Mayor Daley.

In Chicago, only 38- percent of census forms have been returned. Nationally, that number hovers around 52-percent.
