The fire started in a two-story home in the 5700-block of North Ridge late Thursday night. A firefighter suffered minor injuries battling the fire.
A woman who lives in the basement of the home says a neighbor alerted her in time to get out of the house safely.
"We probably would've been stuck in there until the firemen got [there] and told them when to evacuate out of the basement," said fire victim Kieu Bui.
The fire spread to a building next door. The cause was being investigated.
In addition to the firefighter's injuries, a woman was also taken to the hospital to be checked out.
