Car pollution might give bicyclists heart problems

July 11, 2011

According to a new study, polluting vehicles may give bikers heart problems.

The research is in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives. It finds cyclists can have heart irregularities just hours after their exposure to a variety of air pollutants on busy roads.

Scientists from Health Canada and the University of Ottawa are not suggesting bikers would be better off driving. Instead, they want bikers to think of solutions for a cleaner ride such as avoiding busy roads whenever possible.
