Police: Man tried to get on Greyhound bus with gun

April 11, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Police say a man tried to get on a Greyhound bus with a gun in his bag Wednesday morning.

When workers at the Harrison station announced they were going to do a security check, the man reportedly left the station with his black leather bag. When they checked an outside garbage can, they found the bag with an unloaded handgun inside.

Police say the man admitted he had tried to get rid of that weapon.

The man told police he had traveled to Chicago from Lansing, Michigan, and was switching buses on his way to California.
