It may sound farfetched but some women with Type 1 diabetes purposely restrict their insulin doses to lose weight.

But a new study finds those women triple their risk of dying compared to women who do not skip insulin doses. The lead author of the study published in Diabetes Care says this is a very important women's health issue in diabetes and that it happens at shockingly high rates.

Insulin treatment has been linked to weight gain and the practice of restricting insulin is referred to as diabulimia.
