Possible settlement in pet food recall

Menu Foods and other pet food makers involved in the recall say they want to set up a $24 million cash fund to compensate pet owners. The settlement was filed Thursday in federal court.

The fund would compensate thousands of pet owners in the United States and Canada who bought recalled pet foods made by Menu and 11 other companies.

The products had a contaminated ingredient from China that sickened and even killed some pets.

Once the settlement is approved, a toll-free number and a Web site will be set up to help send out information about making claims.
