Durbin urges some to file for stimulus payments

The IRS had issued more than 112 million payments as of mid-July, but there are more than 5 million retirees and vets in the United States who need to file for those payments. The deadline is October 15.

"Here in the Chicagoland area, over 134,000 people are eligible for a $600 or $1,200 check. So, we want to make sure that they do!" Durbin said.

The senator is also warning filers about tax rebate scams. Consumers should be leery of phone calls and e-mails claiming to be from the IRS, and they should not give out sensitive information.
