We're headed into the home stretch, 2008 is almost history. This year will certainly go in the record books and we'll probably be referring to the huge losses in 2008 for years to come. All three major indexes are on track to suffer their worst declines in decades. So far, the Dow Jones industrial average lost about 36% --that would be its worst annual decline since 1931.

The NASDAQ is down more than 42% since last year, its worst performance ever.

And so far this year, the broader S&P 500 has lost more 40%. If the index closes out the year that low, that would be the worst performance since it was created in 1957.

So here's to a better year 2009! There's certainly lots of room for improvement.
