Investigators say the driver of SUV was speeding when he lost control and hit a tree. Authorities are looking into whether alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
Melvin Maldonado, 18, and 16-year-old Magnolia Villafuerte of Chicago were killed. The driver, a 21-year-old male, remains hospitalized in Evanston with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say no one inside the vehicle was wearing a seat belt.
