Chicago Mayor Richard Daley named a new head of the city's Office of Emergency Management and Communication Thursday.

Jose Santiago is a 31-year veteran of the fire department. Most recently, he's been an assistant deputy commissioner.

Santiago is Daley's pick to replace Raymond Orozco, who's now the mayor's chief of staff.

"Jose is the right person to run OEMC and carry out the broad strategy we have used since September 11th of bringing all our city resources together to keep the people of our city and region safe," said Daley.

The appointment requires the approval of the Chicago City Council.
