Federal regulators are considering whether to ban peanuts from being served on commercial airline flights.

Close to two million Americans suffer peanut allergies. For some people, even trace amounts can cause a life-threatening reaction. But peanut farmers are fighting proposed restrictions saying it's unfair to their industry.

The US Department of Transportation is meeting with medical experts, allergy sufferers and members of the food industry to determine whether any restrictions or a full ban of peanuts on airlines is needed.
