As the local and national economy continues to struggle through a recession, the Chicago Urban League is helping support and nurture minority-owned businesses like Melon Express Catering.

As part of its strong commitment to economic empowerment, the Urban League recently welcomed 13 companies into its competitive nextONE business acceleration program, including Melon Express Catering. NextONE, now in its fourth year, is the flagship offering of the Chicago Urban League Entrepreneurship Center. Over a nine-month period, nextONE offers in-depth, high-touch business counseling and technical assistance to its clients. The Chicago Urban League Entrepreneurship Center operates in partnership with the Levy Entrepreneur Center at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.

Created in 2007 by the Chicago Urban League Entrepreneurship Center, the nextONE program serves existing minority businesses in metropolitan Chicago. The program focuses on companies that generate revenues that range between $250,000 and $25 million -- in particular service, retail and construction firms -- and offers in-depth, high-touch business counseling and technical assistance.

NextONE participants receive dedicated financial planning, management resources, industry specific business coaching from peers and experts, marketing services, new client development assistance, and alumni network resources.
