Illinois lawmakers returned to work Tuesday in Springfield.

Committees in both the state House and the Senate are set to begin work on deciding how to spend a finite amount of money the state is expected to collect during the next fiscal year.

This year, the General Assembly will decide how to dole out the money. In the past, that task has been up to the governor.
