Keeping kids slimmer and healthier could begin with sitting down together as a family and having dinner.

In the first report to combine all existing studies on the issue, they found children who eat with their parents at least three times per week had 12 percent lower odds of being overweight and were 24 percent more likely to eat healthy foods.

Researchers from the University of Illinois say sitting down together as a family has nutritional benefits and can help a child's self esteem.
