Evanston residents vote on ways to improve suburb

Some Evanston residents voted Saturday on 30 visionary ideas designed to improve the north suburb.

They came to a movie theater in a program organized by Evanston 150. The group hopes to implement the best ideas by 2013, when Evanston celebrates its 150th anniversary.

The residents voted electronically, and the results will be announced on Wednesday.

The ideas included burying overhead wires so they can't be downed by storms; opening a community swimming pool and more libraries; creating a center for artists; and restoring Evanston's New Year's Eve celebration called First Night.
