A group from northwest suburban Park Ridge is preparing to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to benefit a library in Africa.

On Sunday, several members met for a hike to help get ready for their journey.

They're working with the Chicago-based non-profit Global Alliance for Africa.

Several years ago, people in Park Ridge raised money to construct a library near Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Now, there's a new mission.

"Our climb is to continue to support that," said Chris Parson. "In other words, to get the solar panels up so there's electricity, to get the computers there so the kids can have Internet. There's no electricity in this community at all."

Parson said the climb will take place Jan. 31 through Feb. 5.
