Commander Greg Roach had been in the reserves at Great Lakes Naval Station. He went back on active duty 14 months ago and deployed to Afghanistan in June. He served there for nine months and won a Bronze Star.
Roach lives in Plainfield with his wife and two children. He expects to return to his former job with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission at the Dresden nuclear power plant.
