It happened at approximately 4:15 a.m. at the 15.4 milemarker just east of Ripley Street near Lake Station, Indiana.
The semi driver was not hurt, and no other vehicles were involved.
Traffic, however, was snarled while crews worked to remove the sign and clean up the scene. The right lane remained closed four hours after the accident.
