Chopper 7HD flew over the scene of the accident, which might have involved a state trooper.
Some cars reportedly were trying to get by slowly in the right lane and shoulder, but the back up was at least a couple of miles as of 5 p.m.
Tow trucks were on the scene, presumably to help clear the scene.
Drivers were advised to avoid the area.
