Many Americans should improve diabetes control

More Americans are successfully managing diabetes but a large federal government study shows there's a lot of room for improvement to prevent complications.

A couple of decades ago only two-percent of people with any type of diabetes met the three measures of good diabetes management.

By 2010 that number rose to 19-percent.

The measures are average blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Despite improvement the results show continued need for better diabetes control.

In particular young people and some minority groups were below average in meeting the goals.
