Surrounded by her family in juvenile court, the 14-year-old girl wiped tears from her eyes as she entered a plea of not guilty to first-degree murder charges.
"We're just sad right now. No comment," the girl's grandfather said as he left the arraignment Friday.
The 14-year old allegedly admitted to killing her sister on January 21, 2014, because the 11-year-old was "ungrateful." Prosecutors allege she tried to cover up the scene by showering and told police she'd seen a stranger in the home.
The girls attorney is hoping to retain a psychologist for an evaluation before trial.
The girl is currently charged as a juvenile, but that could change depending on the prosecuting attorney. Neither her name nor that of her 11-year-old sister was released via court order.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for February.
