Mayor Daley also encouraged income-eligible residents to take advantage of the free income tax preparation service the city is offering at 30 sites across the city.
Each year the program returns more than half a billion dollars to working families across Chicago. The program provides refunds of up to $4,800 to low-income working families.
"And one of the most effective tools over the years the Earned Income Tax Program...which was created in 1975 as probably the most significant anti-poverty program in the United States...and this is the most solid one," the mayor said.
