CDC: 1 in 6 kids has developmental disability

That number appears to be on the rise and includes a range of disabilities such as blindness, cerebral palsy, hearing loss and seizures.

Experts say much of the bump in cases seems driven by rising rates of autism and ADHD.

Why this is happening no one can say for sure.

There is a long list of possible factors, but doctors say the most important message from this study is raising awareness of the importance of this as a health problem that needs to be addressed.

The study appears in the journal Pediatrics
