Governor Pat Quinn signed a proclamation Saturday declaring the day be set aside to recognize former Prisoners of War.

A ceremony at the governor's mansion in Springfield paid tribute to U.S. service men and women who have been imprisoned.

Twenty ex-POWs from Illinois and their families participated in the ceremony.

More than a half million Americans have been captured and held as prisoners of war since the American Revolution.
