The five-time Grammy-nominee will attend a benefit performance of "I Am Who I Am" on Sunday afternoon.
The original musical was created by Jackie Taylor and includes three new songs written by Pendergrass. He had a string of hits in the 70s including "Turn Off the Lights", "If You Don't Know Me By Now", and "Wake Up Everybody."
Pendergrass' career was cut short by a car accident that left him a quadriplegic. Eventually he began recording again.
The benefit performance of "I Am Who I Am" is Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Black Ensemble Theater. For tickets, call (773) 769-4451.
