Mental health support for Black men

CHICAGO (WLS) -- ABC 7, Chicago's No. 1 station for news, presented a virtual town hall continuing the focus on Mental Health Awareness Month, in particular exploring mental health care and wellness of Black men in Chicago.

ABC 7 Chicago's Race & Culture Reporter Will Jones moderated "OUR CHICAGO: Voices of the Community," available on abc7chicago.com at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Will Jones explored the unique dynamic of mental health for Black men and the particular issues that present greater challenges specific to their mental wellness. In this week's "Our Chicago: Voices of the Community," a panel of experts shared their experiences working with Black men who face mental health issues, discuss the reluctance by many to seek help for problems they are facing, and shine a light on the specific concerns of this community. These professionals will also highlight their innovative therapeutic approaches to facilitate healing and mental wellness of the men in their programs.

Guest panelists for this week's town hall include the following:

- Dr. Obari Cartman, Chicago Association of Black Psychologists & Real Men Charities, Inc.

- Tytannie Harris, TMH Behavioral Services P.C.

- Dr. Larry Turner, The Therapeutic Inventory Institute

- Aaron Mallory, GRO Community

The virtual town hall will also exclusively stream live on ABC 7's Facebook Live, YouTube, ABC 7's app, and ABC 7's connected TV apps on Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV and Roku.
